All of the kids are getting big! Cyrus and Skip are ready for new homes! Contact us for more info on them! Penny and Nickel are disbudded. We will not be disbudding Hank. He will probably be a great pack goat prospect. He is big and strong with a great personality and will have horns. Let us know if you are interested in any of our wethers or buckling.
The First Litter of the Year
This morning Willow, the pregnant cat, was really nesty. I watched her for a minute and she was pushing. She had one little black kitten. Over the next few hours she had three more kittens. They are white and orange. We will check their sexes in two weeks. They all seem healthy!
Our New Record
On , Wednesday, March 27th, Hazel’s udder was really big and she panted a lot. We kept an eye on her throughout the day and in the afternoon I went to check on her and she had a drip and was having hard contractions. I separated her and watched her for awhile. She pushed for awhile without much of anything. Eventually, Hazel pushed and we saw a set of huge hooves. At first glance it looked like there were three hooves because they were so big and the birth coating was split on the hooves. After a lot of work without much progress I reached in about an inch to help pull the kid. He was huge! Eventually a giant buckling came! His name is Hank. Hank was ten pounds three ounces at birth! He gains about half a pound a day! That is probably a new record on our farm for the biggest kid! Hank nursed seconds after birth because Hazel was lying down and he just slid against her udder as he came and latched on! Hazel of course tasted her milk between contractions like she always does. We call him Big Hank. Hank’s sire is Parks Oasis Bijou. His dam is Finian’s Hazel. He will probably be wethered. If you want him intact contact us ASAP. If you want him to have horns please let us know before April 15th. We will probably disbud him if we have not heard anything by then. Hank is 1/2 Alpine 1/2 Nubian. He will be $75. He will be available to go by May 27th as a wether or June 27th as a buck as he would need a better start as a producer. Penny and Nickel are both disbudded now.
Kids
Skip will be ready to go on March 27th! He is super sweet and friendly! He will be the perfect pet! Skip loves people. Both of his parents are super sweet and easy goats! He will be $75. If you’re interested in him, you can contact us on the contact page or comments. Cyrus can be wethered upon request and can go anytime as a wether. If you want him intact, he will be ready by April 16th. He is gorgeous! He will be the same price as Skip. Juniper’s kids are doing great! Nickel was 5 pounds 12 1/2 ounces at birth. His Sire is Parks Oasis Bijou. So Nick is 3/4 Nubian 1/4 Alpine. He looks like a full Nubian though! He will be available by June 19th at the latest. It you want him intact, please contact us ASAP. We may wether him soon! Penny was 4 pounds 5 ounces at birth. She is Nickel’s twin.
Juniper’s Kids
On Monday, Juniper’s udder started to grow! We kept a close eye on her. Then, yesterday when we went to milk the other goats, she was pushing! We stayed with her and soon a sack started to emerge. She pushed and pushed and then the head and one hoof came out. Then her contractions stopped for about ten minutes. I checked to see where the other leg was and couldn’t find it and June was fine, so we waited a little while longer. Finally the whole kid came out. One leg was straight under the kid’s body. Juniper cleaned her little doeling. We named her Penny. She may be small, but she is strong! After a while a big buckling came! He was in the sack, but it broke as he came. He is super strong too! His name is Nickel. These kids are 3/4 Nubian and 1/4 Alpine. Parks Oasis Bijou is their Sire.
Growing Up
The kids are getting huge! They just reached the point where they can graze and live with the rest of the herd. Cyrus is huge! He is really strong! Skip is probably the sweetest kid that we’ve had! He is our first third generation kid. His grandmother was the second kid that we delivered. He will be available by March 27th. Juniper and Hazel are due anytime now, so keep your eye out for cute newborn pictures!
The Last Day of Cadence
Yesterday Cadence seemed fine for most of the day, but when we went to feed the animals she had those sick, almost angry looking eyes. She was also craning her neck and was very weak. We immediately brought her to the house. We bathed her and gave her syrup and electrolytes, but she just went downhill and nothing helped her. It wasn’t even very cold outside. She lived through about half the night. She will definitely be well remembered on the farm. She was so sweet and small. Her short life taught us many things about raising goats. Well, we’re all still learning!
Summer is Growing
Summer has gotten huge.
Disbudded
Our kids are now disbudded. Skip is also wethered. He will make a great pet, pack, or possibly meat goat. Skip will be available for $100 on March 27th. Cyrus is intact, but we can wether him if someone wants to re-home him as a wether. He will be available on April 16th for $150. Cadence is precious!
Amazing Cadence
When Cadence was born she was very weak. At three days old she got cold and was Hypothermic. With a lot of reviving she recoverd, but her mom didn’t recognize her. Luckily when Talitha gave birth we put Cadence with her and she accepted her! Unfortunately, Cadence fell into the creek at two weeks old, but was rescued and revived again!!! Now she is only 6lbs at three weeks old!
