Just in Time

Today was the only day in a long time that we would be gone most of the day. This morning Hazel, our expecting Alpine doe, had a giant udder. Normally our goats have a  giant udder the day they kid. I milked a little to be sure that she had good milk and wasn’t plugged. Once we got back I went straight to the barn. No kids yet, but she was very nervous and was defiantly in labor. We came home just in time. I watched for about an hour and she was pushing on and off with a drink of her own milk between contractions. Finally the kid started to come. The kid was big and in the sack, so it took a lot of pushing. Finally, Moses came. He is a gorgeous chamoisee buckling. Right after Moses was born, an adorable little sundgau doeling was born. Her name is Tzipporah. Moses will be up for sale. We don’t know about Tzipporah yet. Their dam is Finian’s Hazel and their sire is a gorgeous chamoisee, registered, purebred Alpine. Hazel is the best mom.
